7x7 Turmeric Latte
For the turmeric paste | |
100 g | fresh organic turmeric |
30 g | fresh organic ginger |
2 | star anise |
1 | cinnamon stick |
4 | cardamom pods |
1 pinch of | salt |
1 pinch of | black pepper |
1 pinch of | nutmeg |
1 tbsp | vegetable oil |
water | |
For the tea | |
1 tsp or 1 tea bag | 7x7 KräuterTee / AlkaHerb |
150 ml | almond milk/milk |
agave syrup | |
cinnamon powder |
Peel the turmeric and ginger and cut into small pieces. Put the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, star anise and cardamom pods in a saucepan and bring to the boil with about 200 ml of water. Add the salt, pepper and nutmeg and simmer for another 40 minutes. Meanwhile, add water as needed. Remove the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods and star anise. Using a hand blender, finely purée the turmeric and ginger in a tall glass container until the consistency is paste-like. Add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil and blend again briefly.
Put 1 teaspoon or 1 bag of 7x7 KräuterTee / AlkaHerb in a large latte macchiato glass and fill 2/3 with hot water. Let the tea steep for 2-3 minutes and remove the bag or strain. Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric paste and stir well. Top with warm and frothed milk or almond milk. Sweeten with agave syrup to taste. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon powder and serve immediately.
Pour the remaining turmeric paste into a small screw-top jar or preserving jar and cover with a little vegetable oil. This way it will keep in the refrigerator for several weeks. Alternatively, you can freeze it in portions.
Please note: Since turmeric stains extremely yellow, please use disposable gloves when cutting. Also use dark, wipeable cutting boards. Do not use plastic mixing attachments or plastic mixing cups.
